It is with deep sorrow that we announce the death of James A. Bernhardt of Springfield, Illinois, born in Quincy, Illinois, who passed away on February 24, 2023, at the age of 91, leaving to mourn family and friends. He was predeceased by: his parents, Alfred Victor and Lenora Bernhardt (Honack); his wife Patricia Louise Thornton; his sister Marjory Ann Mast; and his great grandchildren, Jacob Martin and Daisy Williams.

He is survived by: his children, Diane Kratochvil (Tom) of Metairie, LA, Michael Bernhardt of Montrose, CO, Kathy Groesch (George) of New Berlin, Peggy Collins of Tempe, AZ and Judy Kitson (Chuck) of Springfield; and his sister Barbara Schnier of Alvin, TX. He is also survived by 12 grandchildren; 17 great-grandchildren.

Memorial contributions may be made to Concordia Village Scholarship Program or to Blessed Sacrament Church: Building and Grounds.
