He was predeceased by: his parents, Howard Ely and Norma Ely (Suedel); his spouse Marion Donnelly; his siblings, Gilbert, John Ely and Mary Carrigan; and his granddaughter Sarah Ely.

He is survived by: his son Todd Ely of Springfield; his granddaughter Lauren Nevins (Tony) of Springfield; his great grandchildren, Lila, Cora and Gia Nevins; and his sister Martha Solon (Dennis) of Fort Myers, FL..
