He was predeceased by: his parents, William Marcus and Christina Smith (Keller); his former wife Joyce Nelson Smith; and his siblings, Charlotte Schmidt, Bill and Dan Smith.
He is survived by: his wife Annette Smith; his brother Henry Smith (Marylou); his stepchildren, Thomas R. Toal (Cameron), Cynthia Dawn Gwynn (James) and Geoffrey Martin (Francine); and his grandchildren, James, Lily Gwynn, Caroline and Theresa Martin. He is also survived by 7 nieces and 3 nephews.
A graveside service will be held on Thursday, September 17th 2026 at 12:00 PM at the Camp Butler National Cemetery (5063 Camp Butler Rd, Springfield, IL 62707).
