She was predeceased by: her parents, Charles Emmanuel and Nettie Thornton (Higgins); her siblings, Helen Thornton, Elizabeth "Betty" Hollembeak and Roger Thornton; and her great grandchildren, Jacob Martin and Daisy Williams.
She is survived by: her husband James "Jim" A. Bernhardt; her children, Diane Kratochvil (Tom) of Metairie, LA, Michael Bernhardt of Montrose, CO, Kathy Groesch (George) of New Berlin, Peggy Collins of Tempe, AZ and Judy Kitson (Chuck) of Springfield; and her sisters, Mary Strankmeyer of Aurora and Sue Mast (Gerald) of Springfield. She is also survived by 12 grandchildren; 17 great-grandchildren.
