He was predeceased by: his parents, Elmer J. Mattsson and Agnes L. Lein; his son Jeffrey W. Mattsson; his brother John L. Mattsson; and his nephew Johnnie Mattsson.

He is survived by: his wife Jeanette E. Stickel; his children, Timothy Mattsson (Christie), Deborah Guy (Artie Hatfield) and Karen O'Brien; and his sisters, Mary Jane Lundsgaard (Tom) of Washington State and Margi Stueve (Gary) of Ohio. He is also survived by ten grandchildren and fourteen great-grandchildren.
