It is with great sadness that we announce the death of Robert Emmett Smith of Springfield, Illinois, who passed away on June 28, 2025, at the age of 84, leaving to mourn family and friends. He was predeceased by: his parents, Richard L. Smith and Philomena Smith (Riedinger); his wife Norma Jane Drake; his daughters, Robin Smith and Sherri Costello; his brothers, James and Richard Smith; and his grandson Robby Freligh.
He is survived by: his children, Gary Costello (Penny), Kathy Goebel of Springfield, Michelle Smith (John) of Rochester, Kelly Smith of Springfield and Bobbi Smith (Chris Curran) of Springfield; and his siblings, Marilyn Tate (Bill) of Springfield and George Smith of Florida. He is also survived by 13 grandchildren; 21 great-grandchildren and one on the way; 2 great-great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
