He was predeceased by : his parents, James Cookson and Kathryn Cookson (Waseleski). He is survived by : his wife Annabel Cookson of Springfield; his sons, Douglas Dane Cookson (Sherrie) of Springfield, Rodger Louis Cookson (Kellie) of Springfield and Jason Turner Cookson of Springfield; his grandchildren, Ashley DeLuca (John), Jaron Cookson (Rachael), Dane Michael Cookson (Katherine), Ryan Cookson (Stephanie), Nicholas Cranwill, Cole Cookson (Mikayla Hamlin), Menna Cookson, Emily Chandra, Tristin Cookson and Isabella Cookson (Trent Mulligan); and his siblings, James Cookson (Libby) of St. Charles, MO and Lessly Sharpe (Greg) of Quincy, IL.. He is also survived by 19 great-grandchildren.

Visitation was held on Monday, April 22nd 2024 from 10:00 AM to 11:30 AM at the Bisch Funeral Home West (2931 S Koke Mill Rd, Springfield, IL 62711). A memorial service was held on Monday, April 22nd 2024 at 11:30 AM at the same location.

Memorials may be made to the Wounded Warrior Project or to any veteran organization of the donor's choice.
