We announce the death of Ruth T. Hemphill (Springfield, Illinois), who passed away on September 21, 2026, at the age of 84. She was predeceased by: her parents, Jesse L. Tucker and Anna Geneve Tucker (Cunningham); her husband Marvin Hemphill; her stepchildren, Naoma Beth, Christopher and James Matthew; her grandchildren, Lisa Hemphill, Maria Uchtman and Dustin Hemphill; and her siblings, Wayne Tucker and Rachel Berry.
She is survived by: her children, Tyna Newlan (Floyd), Marva Uchtman, Ted Hemphill (Vickie), Wynona McCall (Chuck), Dynean Crow, John Hemphill (Lori) and Rebecca Walton (Brian). She is also survived by 28 grandchildren; 55 great-grandchildren; eight great-great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
Visitation will be held on Thursday, October 1st 2026 from 5:00 PM to 7:00 PM at the Vancil-Murphy Funeral Home (437 S Grand Ave W, Springfield, IL 62704). A funeral service will be held on Friday, October 2nd 2026 at 10:00 AM at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints (3601 Buckeye Dr, Springfield, IL 62712).
In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the Missionary Fund for Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints Springfield, Illinois 1st Ward.
