He was predeceased by: his parents, Vernon Otto Bartels of New Douglas, IL. and Arlene Beckman of New Douglas, IL.; his grandparents, Emma (Sievers) and George Beckman of New Douglas; his former wife Frances Lee Simpson of Staunton; and his daughter Wendy Arlene.
He is survived by: his former wife Lela Conroy of Staunton; his wife Sheila Beckman (Foster) of Carlinville, IL; his son-in-law John Walker; and his siblings-in-law, James E. Foster Jr., Gary Foster, Mike Foster, Deborah Wilson (Foster) and Amy Foster.
