He was predeceased by: his parents, Delmar Sugars and Esther Sugars (Schrader); his daughter Tracy Oaks; his brother Eugene Sugars; and his mother-in-law Evelyn Smith.

He is survived by: his wife Donna Smith; his children, Theresa Love (Bill Johnson) of Princeton, Tammy Sugars of Sterling, Tina Dykstra (Dan) of Morrison and Craig Hills (Debbie) of Dixon; his son-in-law David Oaks of Princeton; his brother Larry Sugars (Maxine) of New Bedford; his siblings-in-law, Greg Smith (Dianne) of Casper, WY, Gordon Smith (Marcia) of Russiaville, IN and Shirley Sugars of Victoria, TX; and his grandchildren, Jacob, Heather, Dustin, Jeannette, Brittany, Ryan, Corey, Aaron, Taylor, Sydney, Robert and Jeremy. He is also survived by eleven great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.
