He was predeceased by: his parents, Lester Handel and Grace Handel Sr. (Kendall); his son Todd Handel; his siblings, Joyce Long, Lester Jr., Ken, Warren, Edward and Ray Handel; his nephew Alex Handel; and his brothers-in-law, Ronnie Peppers and Bill Long.
He is survived by: his wife Sharon Peppers; his sons, Toby Handel (Becky) of Coal Valley, Leslie Denning (Tawnya) of Sterling, Gordy Denning (Krista) of Rock Falls and Brian Handel of Sterling; his brothers, Larry Handel of Orange Co, CA and Jim Handel (Susan) of Aberdeen, NC; his siblings-in-law, Janie Handel, Paula Peppers, Ed Peppers (Judy) and Jack Peppers (Diane); and his close friends, Duane Myers (Debbie) and Kathy Sliger. He is also survived by 10 grandchildren; 14 great grandchildren.
Memorials may be given in his memory to Juvenile Diabetes Research.
