Mary E. Shankel Obituary

It is with great sadness that we announce the death of Mary E. Shankel (Sterling, Illinois), who passed away on May 13, 2023, at the age of 101, leaving to mourn family and friends. Family and friends are welcome to leave their condolences on this memorial page and share them with the family.

She was predeceased by: her parents, Everett Shirley and Zora Shirley (Preston); her husband William Robert Shankel; her daughter Virginia Rousey; her sons-in-law, Gene Rousey, Tom Razo Sr. and Evon Kuhlemier; and her siblings, Floyd Shirley and Joyce Shirley.

She is survived by: her daughters, Mary Drabek (Ken) of Sterling and Jerrie Kuhlemier of Rock Falls; and her nieces, Kay Razo of Sterling and Diane Simpkins of LaMoille. She is also survived by fourteen grandsons; fourteen granddaughters; twenty-seven great grandchildren; fifteen great great grandchildren and one on the way; several great nieces and nephews.

In lieu of flowers a memorial has been established to Serenity Hospice in Oregon.
