He was predeceased by: his parents, Klaus Svela and Emma Svela; his wife Emma Lucille; his brothers, Melvin and Clarence; and his sister-in-law Nina Svela.

He is survived by: his children, Dennis, Rosemary Svela of Lilburn, GA, Janice Svela of Naperville, IL, Dean and Deann; and his grandchildren, Jerome Tomas (Dana), Phillip Tomas (Angela), Janeen Tomas (Ryan Bannack), Jennifer Svela, Katie Svela Crews (Thomas), Matthew Svela (Andrea), Chelsey Stolte (Austin) and Micah Svela (Kristi). He is also survived by 17 great grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews.
