He was predeceased by: his parents, Vincent J. Schmitt and Phyllis D. Schmitt (Borglin); his wife Joan W. Lacey; and his sister Jacqueline LeRette. He is survived by: his son Erik Schmitt (Rachel); his grandchild Ellyse of Columbus, OH; his child Lacey Barahona (Mike); his grandchildren, Sedona and Roman of Columbus, OH; and his sister Carole Flaherty (Kurt) of Springfield. He is also survived by several nieces, nephews, and great nieces and nephews.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Starved Rock Regional Center (formerly Easter Seals).
