With solemn hearts, we announce the passing of Richard J. Long of Sycamore, Illinois, born in Mankato, Minnesota, whose presence will be deeply missed, having departed on October 20, 2025 at the age of 77. He was predeceased by: his parents, Lyle Long and Florence Long; and his brother Bary of North Mankato, Minnesota.. He is survived by: his wife Nancy; his children, Tara Katherine Bradac (Nate) of Sycamore and Adam Richard (Erica) of Villa Park; his grandchildren, Noah, Benjamin, Issac and Maddie; his siblings, Jane Fossen (Steve) of Mankato, Minnesota, Judie Zins (Jay) of Mankato, Minnesota, Kay Schultz (Tom) of Mankato, Minnesota and David Long (Debbie) of Chatfield; and his sister-in-law Sue Long of North Mankato, Minnesota..

Memorials can be made to Sycamore Public Library, 103 E. State St., or to the family.

“I feel privileged to have been colleague and friend to Rick. We shared a therapy consultation group, where he was always a voice of compassion. We shared a book club where he was often a "different" voice and perspective. We watched untold football games together, mostly Bears. where he tolerated my misery with muted good humor. We went to many concerts together this last 10 years. We had tickets for a concert last night! He will be sorely missed...”
