He was predeceased by: his parents, John McCarty and Mae Jean McCarty (Gist); his siblings, Jerry McCarty and Roger McCarty; his niece Katy McCarty; and his nephew Robert Samson.
He is survived by: his sons, Jeremy McCarty and Ben McCarty (Rhonda) of Decatur; and his sisters, Alice Christenberry (Tom) of Litchfield, Debbie Samson (Rick) of Taylorville and Donna Weaver (Mark) of Taylorville. He is also survived by numerous nieces and nephews.
