He was predeceased by: his parents, James L. Benson and Patricia Benson. He is survived by: his wife Marianne MacKenzie; his daughters, Amy Aluyi of Tremont, Emily Benson of Pekin and Elly Conklin (Jason) of Knoxville, TN; his grandchildren, Bo, Marley Aluyi of Tremont, Seth, Aiden, Anna and Megan Conklin of Knoxville; and his brother D. Bret Benson.

In lieu of flowers, memorials can be made to Cursillo in Christ of the Diocese of Peoria or St. Paul's Episcopal Church, Peoria, Il.
