He was predeceased by: his parents, John H. Harness and Mary F. Haggard Harness; his wife Joyce Hinton; and his son Jeff Harness. He is survived by: his daughter Julie Messersmith (David) of Tremont; his grandchildren, Natalie Anderson (Tim) of Tremont and Zach Messersmith (Bethonay) of Springfield, J. R.; and his brothers, Don Harness of Lawrenceville, Dale Harness of St. Peter, Larry Harness (Mary) of Allendale, Gary Harness (Rita) of Mt. Carmel and Jim Harness (Linda) of Mt. Carmel. He is also survived by numerous nieces and nephews.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Tremont United Methodist Church or Tremont Rescue.
