He was predeceased by: his parents, John H. Harness and Mary F. Haggard Harness; his wife Joyce Hinton; and his son Jeff Harness. He is survived by: his daughter Julie Messersmith (David) of Tremont; his grandchildren, Natalie Anderson (Tim) of Tremont and Zach Messersmith (Bethonay) of Springfield, J. R.; and his brothers, Don Harness of Lawrenceville, Dale Harness of St. Peter, Larry Harness (Mary) of Allendale, Gary Harness (Rita) of Mt. Carmel and Jim Harness (Linda) of Mt. Carmel. He is also survived by numerous nieces and nephews.
Visitation was held on Thursday, October 30th 2025 from 5:00 PM to 7:00 PM at the Tremont United Methodist Church (112 W Pearl St, Tremont, IL 61568). A masonic service was held on Thursday, October 30th 2025 at 7:00 PM at the same location. A funeral service was held on Friday, October 31st 2025 at 10:00 AM at the same location.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Tremont United Methodist Church or Tremont Rescue.
