He was predeceased by: his parents, Burt Lester and Dorothy Powell (Keller) of Nevada; and his siblings, Dwight Powell, Richard Powell and Mary Crook.

He is survived by: his wife Teresa Powell of Vandalia; his children, Andy Canning (Lindsay) of Collinsville and Tabitha (Landyn Hubbard) of Beckemeyer; his brother Nelson Powell (Carolyn) of Brownstown; and his grandchildren, Kenzington, Emma and Briggs. He is also survived by numerous nieces, nephews, extended family, and friends.
