He was predeceased by: his parents, Ernie Carter and Opal Sadie Carter (Meyer); his children, Todd Carter and Elizabeth Carter; and his siblings, Jim Carter, Peggy Edgecombe, Janice Kirk and Eula Hayes.
He is survived by: his wife Patty Carter (Koonce) of Vandalia; his children, Troy Carter (Jenny) of Raleigh, NC and Tammy (Dave Stieren) of Farmersville; his stepchildren, Kristina Bennett of St. Louis, Kimberly Bladdick of St. Louis and Keith "Buzz" Daughtery (Barb) of Vandalia; his grandchildren, Trevor, Maddie, Kenzie, Logan, Sam (Demi), Kara (Drew), Jim, Christopher, Traesun, Jhoanie, Katy and Kaden; and his great grandchildren, Joseph and Claire. He is also survived by numerous nephews, extended family.
