He was predeceased by : his parents, Lloyd Gillespie and Blanche Gillespie (Avery); his wife Geraldine Stonum; and his siblings, Charles Gillespie, Lena Bean, Mary McBride and Blanche Ruth Gillespie.

He is survived by : his children, John David, Debbie and Donna; his grandchildren, Mike Bird, Brian Bird, Valorie Taylor, Erica Lucas, Jason Buchanan and Evin "Peanut" Betts; his great grandchildren, Johnathan Bird, Logan Bird, Wyatt Bird, Shelby Mae Bird, Jason Taylor, Brianne Taylor, Elowen "Redbird" Lucas and Addison Buchanan; and his sisters, Margaret Graves of Vienna and Theresa Gray of Vienna. He is also survived by nieces, nephews, other relatives and many friends.
