With sadness, we share the passing of Matthew Schmit of Villa Park, Illinois. Matthew, born on November 29, 1981, passed away on August 25, 2026. Family and friends are welcome to leave their condolences on this memorial page and share them with the family.
Family, friends, and acquaintances remember Matthew for his warmth, thoughtfulness, and the moments shared together. While he will be deeply missed, the influence he had on the lives around him remains. Loved ones will reflect on the time spent together. Matthew’s memory will live on in the hearts of friends and family, a lasting reminder of the connections and experiences he brought to the world.
He was loved and cherished by many people including: his parents, James Schmit and Marsha Schmit; his brother Jason; and his sons, Ben and Joey.
A memorial gathering was held on Thursday, September 3rd 2026 from 3:00 PM to 8:00 PM at the Steuerle Chapel (15 W Park Blvd, Villa Park, IL 60181). A Mass was held on Friday, September 4th 2026 at 10:30 AM. During the COVID-19 pandemic, he volunteered to deliver meals to those in need, putting the well-being of others before his own.
In lieu of flowers, memorials to the St. Alexander Religious Education Program are appreciated.
