He was predeceased by: his parents, Edward A. Watkins and Mary Frances Watkins (Colston); his wife Carmen Louise Shultz; and his siblings, Gerald and Margaret.

He is survived by: his daughters, Paula Kay Hambrick of Virginia and Candace Thomas (Mitch) of Iowa City, IA; his granddaughter Elizabeth Howell (Terry Pratt); his great grandchildren, Chaz and Kenley of Kilbourne; his granddaughter Christy Mangold (Ryan); his great grandchild Lane of Rushville; and his granddaughters, Dr. Jacintha Thomas (James Davis) of Omaha, NE and Alleyna Allmon (Jackson) of North Liberty, IA. He is also survived by several nieces and nephews.

Memorial donations are suggested to the First Presbyterian Church of Virginia.
