He was predeceased by : his parents, Herman James May and Elizabeth "Betty" Alice Faries; his brother Herman James May II; and his stepfather Richard Faries. He is survived by : his children, Tracy May, Steven May, Betsey May, Bailey Favazza (Zachary) and Lauren Ruzich; his grandchildren, Kendahl May, Ivan Montgomery and Freya Montgomery; his half-sister Ramona Good (Barritt); and his close friend Kathy May. He is also survived by nieces; nephews; and cousins.
