He was predeceased by: his wife Scottye Lou Hanks; his parents, Paul Hanks and Violet Hanks; and his brother Michael Hanks. He is survived by: his children, Brandon Hanks (Gabrielle), Matthew Hanks (Tami), Michael Hanks (Nicole) and Calen Hanks (Jacquie); his grandchildren, William Hanks, Adam, Taylor Hanks, Megan, Ryan, Lauren Hanks, Kathryn, Violet, Jack and Paul Hanks; and his siblings, Paula Smith, Emilie Marlinghaus and Jonathan Hanks.
