It is with great sadness that we announce the death of Walter R. Urfer of West Liberty, Illinois, who passed away on July 12, 2025, leaving to mourn family and friends. Leave a sympathy message to the family on the memorial page of Walter R. Urfer to pay them a last tribute.
He was predeceased by: his parents, Walter G. Urfer and Flossie A. Urfer (Robins); his wife Leatha Ginder; and his siblings, Wanda Rose Urfer, Dorothy Isenburg and Leon Urfer.
He is survived by: his children, Vernon Urfer (Ruby) of West Liberty, Illinois, Dion Urfer (Deborah) of Newton, Illinois, Steven Urfer of West Liberty, Illinois, Gilbert Urfer (Pamela) of Newton, Illinois, Douglas Urfer (Mary) of West Liberty, Illinois, Elaine Menke (Duane) of Newton, Illinois and Rita Urfer of Phoenix, Arizona.; his grandchildren, Adrianne Urfer (Tim Bilbrey), Aaron Urfer (Amanda), Alison Kuhl (Rodney), Rachel Frohning (Curtis), Brianne Urfer, Kristen Knicley (Tristan), Amanda Tarr (Brock) and Britni Huddleston (Travis); his great grandchildren, Alaina, Austun, Ashlyn and Adeline Urfer; his grandchildren, Kaden, Rylan Kuhl, Laney, Mila Frohning, Bentley, Westin Knicley, Turner, Riley Tarr, Sophie and Audrey Huddleston; and his brother Earl Urfer (Susan) of Dundas. He is also survived by several nieces and nephews.
Visitation will be held on Friday, July 18th 2025 from 4:00 PM to 7:00 PM and on Saturday, July 19th 2025 from 9:30 AM to 10:30 AM at the St. Thomas the Apostle Catholic Church (404 W Jourdan St, Newton, IL 62448). A Mass of Christian burial will be held on Saturday, July 19th 2025 at 11:00 AM at the same location. A burial will be held on Saturday, July 19th 2025 at the Westlawn Memorial Park Cemetery.
In loving memory of Walter, memorials may be made to Saint Thomas the Apostle Catholic Church or Sainte Marie American Legion.
