We announce the death of Steven C. Sawka of Wheeling, Illinois, born in Jacksonville, North Carolina, who passed away on July 15, 2026, at the age of 72. He was loved and cherished by many people including: his wife Suzanne Tortorella Sawka; his children, Jaime Benavides (Gabriel), Christopher Sawka and Elyse Hinte (Jeremy); and his grandchild Quinten Benavides.
In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests contributions to help with memorial expenses and provide meals as Steve's spouse transitions into full-time caregiving for their son.
