He was predeceased by: his parents, Alva Glenn and Lena Mae Coates (Cotter); his wife Sylvia Irene Sullivan; and his brother Kenyon Cotter. He is survived by: his sons, David Coates (Joyce) of White Hall, IL and Jonathan Coates (Della) of White Hall, IL; his grandchildren, Jason Coates, Eric Coates (Alexis), Jennifer Kraushaar (Corey), Tyler Coates (Christina) and Chantae Grisby (Fabian); his great grandchildren, Axel Coates, Aiden Coates, Addison Kraushaar, Adriana Kraushaar, Adelise Kraushaar, Benjamin Kraushaar, Kennedy Coates, Grace Adams, Jocelyn Coates, Antjuan Coates-Jacinto, LaJuana Coates-Jacinto, Amya Grisby and LuVon Grisby; and his siblings, Edna Moran, Shirley Hillis, David Katzenmaier and Gary Coates.
Visitation will be held on Saturday, October 4th 2025 from 9:00 AM to 11:00 AM at the White Hall Penecostal Church (325 Douglas St, White Hall, IL 62092). A funeral service will be held on Saturday, October 4th 2025 at 11:00 AM at the White Hall Pentecostal Church (325 Douglas St, White Hall, IL 62092).
