With heavy hearts, we announce the death of Kurt Gutfreund (Wilmette, Illinois), born in Vienna, Illinois, who passed away on July 7, 2025 at the age of 87. Family and friends are welcome to leave their condolences on this memorial page and share them with the family.
As Kurt departs from our midst, his spirit ascends to join the cosmic dance of stars, a shimmering constellation of memories that will forever grace the night sky of the hearts of those who loved Kurt. Though Kurt may no longer walk beside us, his legacy lives on — a testament to the enduring power of love to transcend the boundaries of time and space.
He was predeceased by: his parents, Hildegard Gutfreund and Heinrich Gutfreund. He is survived by: his wife Nancy; his children, David, Leslie Cohn (Michael) and Hedy; his grandchildren, Danielle and Xander Cohn; and his caregiver Harvey Balios.
A funeral service was held on Wednesday, July 9th 2025 at 10:00 AM at the Weinstein & Piser Funeral Home (111 Skokie Blvd, Wilmette, IL 60091). A shiva was held on Wednesday, July 9th 2025 from 4:00 PM to 8:00 PM at the Hotel Sofitel (20 E Chestnut St, Chicago, IL 60611).
In lieu of flowers contributions may be made to Illinois Holocaust Museum & Education Center, the United States Holocaust Memorial Museum, or charity of your choice for donations.
