He was predeceased by: his parents, Theran Yates and Dorothy Yates (Law); his daughter Amy Yates; his brothers, Johnny Yates, David Shelby Yates and Michael Yates; and his siblings-in-law, Larry Szwargulski and Alice.
He is survived by: his daughter Shelley; his son-in-law Jim West of Roxana; his stepson Zach (Nina Reed) of Edwardsville; his grandchildren, Brendon West and Lane Gregory; his stepgrandson Hayden; his siblings, Sonjia Peacock (Don) of Godfrey, Julia Price (Kelly) of Dorsey, Pam Szwargulski of Alton, Darrell Yates (Evelyn) of Bethalto and Lanny Yates of Edwardsville; and his sisters-in-law, Modell Yates, Brenda Yates and Betty Yates. He is also survived by many nieces, nephews, and other extended and friends.
