He was predeceased by: his wife Barbara Ann Merkling Hamnik; his close friend Rob Bousson; his son Brett Hamnik; his father George Hamnik; his brother George Richard "Dick" Hamnik; and his mother Mellie Hamnik (Moore).
He is survived by: his daughters, LeAnn "Annie" Berens and Lynn Germer (Tim); his grandchildren, Jack, Allison "Ally" Berens and Lauren Germer; and his siblings-in-law, Steve Merkling (Diane), Dan Merkling (Nannette), Karen Grooms (Dave) and Ruth "Pooh" Paul (Jeff). He is also survived by many nieces and nephews, and countless friends.
Visitation was held on Thursday, May 7th 2026 from 4:00 PM to 7:00 PM at the Congdon & Co Funeral Directors (3012 Sheridan Rd, Zion, IL 60099). A memorial service was held on Thursday, May 7th 2026 from 6:30 PM to 7:00 PM at the same location.
