He was predeceased by : his parents, John Arthur and Mildred Sterling (Norton); his daughter Tycha Jo Sterling; and his siblings, Tonia Cummings and Richard Sterling.

He is survived by : his fiancée Nettie Stroup-Chambers; his daughters, Amanda Ellis-Alexandria (Kevin) and Regina Potter-Cyprus (Kevin Jr.); his grandchildren, Lucas Potter, Zachary Potter, Tanner Potter, Tatem Potter, Alexander Emery and Morgan Emery; his great grandchildren, Lanceston Potter, Kyson Potter, Lily Potter and Emri Potter; and his siblings, Tim Sterling-Elwood, Linda Daugherty-Elwood (Bob), Candy Robinson-Anderson (James) and Teresa Manning-Elwood.
