He was predeceased by: his parents, Rolla Dean and Mary Dean (Kaufman); his wife Shirley Elsworth Dean; and his siblings, Gladys Seibold, Betty Barker and Jack Dean.

He is survived by: his children, Vic Dean of Crested Butte and Michelle "Shelly" O'Malia (Kevin) of Fishers; his grandchildren, Karleigh Dean of Ft. Collins, Jessie Shumaker (Kaleb) of Murray, Utah., Brady O'Malia (Christy) of Noblesville and Connor O'Malia (Audrey) of Indianapolis; and his great grandchildren, Hallie Jo O'Malia, Nora June O'Malia and Brooklyn BaylesSister-Shirley Payne of FairmountSeveral.
