He was predeceased by: his parents, William Floyd Theobald and Marilyn Lightner (Bogue); his brother Glen Lightner; and his niece Ashley McRoberts. He is survived by: his partner Michell Schuck; his children, Tara Philpot (Christopher) of Shelbyville, Brooke Hudnall (Jonathan) of Shelbyville and Jayla Koehler of Arlington; and his siblings, Sharlene Mecum (Tim), Darlene Grinstead (Bob), Ginger Jarman (Bob), Cindy Hawkins (Jeff), Joy Prather (Kerry), Troy Hiatt (Stacy) and Melody Smith. He is also survived by 7 grandchildren.
