He was predeceased by: his parents, Edward Richard and Loretta M. Kelty (Putnam); his siblings, Dr. Robert Kelty and Mary Ellen Granahan; and his nephew Neil Kelty.

He is survived by: his siblings, Louise (Steven Hartman), Joseph (Ellen Kelty), Julie (Ronald Weaver), James (Linda Kelty), Dr. Richard Kelty of Fort Wayne, Laura (Edward Scherschel), Daniel (Pam Kelty), John Kelty of Fort Wayne, Dr. Gerald (Jamie Kelty) and Stephen Kelty of Fort Wayne; his siblings-in-law, Marvene Kelty of Fort Wayne and Daniel Granahan of Spokane, Washington; and his close friend Dawn Taylor of Auburn. He is also survived by many nieces, nephews, great nieces and nephews.
