He is survived by: his significant other Christa Richter; his children, Sabine Penland (Michael) of Auburn and Tom Florreich of Kendallville; his grandsons, Spencer Penland and Thomas Baugher; and his brother Egon Florreich (Inge) of Wiesbaden, Germany..

Memorials may be directed to the Ronald McDonald House or the DeKalb County Humane Shelter.
