He was predeceased by: his parents, Roger Howlett and Mary Jo Simms Mathews; his stepfather Carl Mathews Sr.; his grandparents, Mary and Joseph Simms; his father-in-law Roy Johnson; and his stepfather-in-law James Moore.
He is survived by: his wife Denise Johnson Simms of Sunman; his children, Rex Smith (Kayla Teer) of Dillsboro, Indiana, Jerry Neece II of Sunman, Indiana and Bethany Dunn (Eric) of Milan, Indiana.; his siblings, Carl "Pete" Mathews (Annette) of Polo, Illinois, Erin Dryden of Sunman, Indiana, Sandra Howlett of Portland, Oregon and Gwen Dimmett (Todd) of Portland, Oregon.; his grandchildren, Colton Dunn, Brooklyn Pelfrey (Jordan), Jordayn Dunn, Jayden Neece, Kaidyn Dunn, Lane Smith and Laikyn Dunn; and his great grandchildren, Braxton, Sawyer and Waylon.
Visitation was held on Wednesday, September 10th 2025 from 11:00 AM to 1:00 PM at the Living Word Apostolic Church (7475 US-50, Aurora, IN 47001). A funeral service was held on Wednesday, September 10th 2025 at 1:00 PM at the same location.
