He was predeceased by: his parents, Gwendolyn Smith (Bade) and Alfred Vernon Smith; and his brothers, Kent Smith and Craig Smith. He is survived by: his brother Bruce Smith (Dee) of Spencer; his sisters-in-law, Sandie Smith of Monrovia and Leslie Smith of Mooresville; and his nieces and nephews, Zach, Michelle, Bruce, Jr., Brandy, Jordan, Trevor and Brian. He is also survived by several great nieces and nephews; and many great-great nieces and nephews.
