He was predeceased by: his wife Phyllis Jo Wethington; and his sons, Lawrence Phillip Wethington, Jr. and Michael Dean Wethington. He is survived by: his children, Carl Franklin Wethington (Terri), Mark Allen Wethington (Christy) and Angela Kay Wethington. He is also survived by 16 grandchildren and 18 great-grandchildren, 10 siblings.
