He was predeceased by: his parents, Thomas Calvin and Vivian Shirley (Cecil); his grandson Ethan Garrett Shirley; his siblings, Wanda Dalton and Larry Shirley (Diane); and his brother-in-law Samuel C. Short.
He is survived by: his wife Katharyn Dale Guthrie (Kay); his children, Thomas Dale Shirley of Brownsville, Kentucky, Robin Maddox (Shirley) of Columbia and Justin K. Shirley (Tara) of Bedford, Indiana; his grandchildren, Audrey Chantel Wilks (Logan), Austin Charles Maddox (Becka), Olivia Paige Kuhlenschmidt (Ryan), Aimee Christene Maddox and Thomas Everett Shirley; his great grandchildren, Collette Chase Wilks, Hadley Celeste Maddox and Amelia Kuhlenschmidt (Due); his siblings, Sue Dorsett (Mike), Annetta Short and Nelson Shirley (Jennifer); and his brother-in-law Kenneth Dalton. He is also survived by several nieces and nephews.
The family asks that memorial contributions be made to Lawrence County Cancer Patient Services.
