He was predeceased by: his parents, Theodore Arthur and Alice Elizabeth Nelson (Dittemore); his wife Delight "Dolly" Nelson (Thompson); and his sister Mary Alice Ricketts. He is survived by: his children, Judy Sydor (Pat), Mike Nelson (Sarah), Charles Nelson (Kay) and Andy Nelson (Charlene); and his sister Margaret Nelson. He is also survived by several grandchildren, nieces and nephews.
The family requests that memorial contributions be made to the Macular Degeneration Association or the Monroe County Animal Shelter.
