He was predeceased by: his parents, Rosie Higgins (Burk) and Ernest Higgins; his daughter Ginny Blake; and his siblings, Barbara Garnerman, Richard "Dicky" Higgins and Lowell Burk.

He is survived by: his wife Ginger Lee Shook; his son Gerald W. "Bill" Higgins; his grandsons, Levi and Brad Blake; his son-in-law Brian Blake of Ellettsville; and his brothers, Ernie Higgins of Bloomington and Roger Higgins of Bloomington. He is also survived by several nieces and nephews.
