With heavy hearts, we announce the death of Robert Ensman (Bloomington, Indiana), born in Findlay, Ohio, who passed away on January 18, 2025 at the age of 87. Leave a sympathy message to the family on the memorial page of Robert Ensman to pay them a last tribute.

He was predeceased by: his parents, Eugene Ensman and Eva Ensman (Apple); his brother Raymond Ensman; and his son-in-law Mario Bettencourt. He is survived by: his wife Judith Ensman; his sisters, Sue Nocella (Jerry Sanders) and Ann Long; his children, Lisa Ensman (Anurag Shankar), Mike Ensman (Christina Ensman), Catherine Ensman and Patricia Ensman (Mario Bettencourt); and his grandchildren, Dhruv Shankar, Brooke Carmichael (Anthony Back), Rajin Shankar and Jessica McNear (Jackson McNear).

“Dear Judy & Family- Susan and I now live in Florida and regret not being able to offer our condolences in person. However, we want you to know how much we valued the friendship we enjoyed with Bob and what a tremendous impact he had on IU, its Chemistry Department, and my research in particular. He was not only a stellar scientist, but also masterful in electronics, in management, and in learning and teaching others. He was a wonderful person and will be missed by all. Gary & Susan Hieftje”

“I worked for Bob, when I was in college, at the electronics shop at IU Chemistry. $2/hr. Great guy, a real engineer. More recently my wife worked with him at IU Geology on some projects. Quite the span of years! I’m 67.”
