In loving memory of Thomas Albert Schwandt (Bloomington, Indiana), who departed this world on December 22, 2025 at the age of 77. Thomas leaves behind a legacy remembered by family and friends. He was predeceased by: his parents, Lorraine Elsie Friese Schwandt and Wilfred Frederick Charles Schwandt; his stepfather Walter Baermann; and his son-in-law Bart Abel. He is survived by: his wife Sherry; his daughter Sarah (Ash); his brother Dave; his stepchildren, Brandy (Shawn) and Jeremy; and his grandchildren, Abby (Karlie), Paige, Ty, William, Benjamin, Piper and Finn.

“Tom was a great source of inspiration and a fine teacher who believed in Bildung. I met Tom as a master student in 1990 during an exchange program, and we have kept in touch over the years. His engaged scholarship and deep understanding of the social sciences, and its philosophical underpinnings, have guided me, and his vision on evaluation as a particular form of pedagogy, described in 'Evaluation reconsidered' has always remained a source to return to and to share with future generations.”
