He was predeceased by: his parents, Henry Shields and Aola Shields-Deckard; his daughter Penny Shields; his siblings, Dale Shields and Joyce Hollers; and his sons-in-law, Gary Trimble and Freddie Purdie.
He is survived by: his wife Betty June Shields; his children, Rickie Dean Shields (Lori) and Julie Trimble-Purdie; his grandchildren, Brandie Martindale, Isaac Trimble (Nicole), Carl Eli Trimble and Kati Hawkins (Bret); and his siblings, Dennis Shields, Judy Staggs and Betty Deckard. He is also survived by many nieces and nephews.
Visitation was held on Friday, May 15th 2026 from 5:00 PM to 7:00 PM at the Allen Funeral Home and Crematory (4155 S Old State Rd 37, Bloomington, IN 47401).
