He was predeceased by: his parents, Elias Gerber and Rose Gerber (Schwartz); his sons, Mathew and Andrew; and his siblings, Wendell Gerber, Vernon Gerber, Robert Gerber, Audrey Paxson, Lucille Clark (Steffen) and Victor Gerber.

He is survived by: his wife Betty of Bluffton; his sons, Timothy Gerber (Janet) of Greentown and Benjamin Gerber (Lori) of Markle; his grandchildren, Sara Ugren (Gerber), Emily Sveson (Gerber), Kristen Whitehead (Gerber), Victoria Beitz (Gerber), Jenai Miller (Croft), Shaylee Harrison (Gerber), Alexander Croft (Autumn) and Jacob Gerber (Brooke); and his sister-in-law Evelyn Gerber. He is also survived by 11 great-grandchildren.

Memorials may be made in Tillman's memory to First United Methodist Church of Bluffton.
