He was predeceased by: his parents, Gene Akers and Luella Akers (Knoll); his brother Harlan Akers; and his stepfather Donald Newby. He is survived by: his wife Sharon Akers; his sister Diane Akers; his stepsiblings, Phil Sherry-Newby (Marcia), Joan McAvoy (Mark) and Linda Derrow (Dan); his sisters-in-law, Donna McAllister (Jim), Linda Persinger, Laura Ahlborn (James), Sheila Benson and Carrie Akers; and his nephew Wade Akers. He is also survived by several other nieces, nephews, and other extended family.
