He was predeceased by: his parents, Ivan Gathering and Shirley Smeltzer Gathering. He is survived by: his wife Denise (Pitcher); his children, Cody Swaniger, Matthew Smeltzer and Sara Smeltzer; his siblings, Kelly Smeltzer (Jamie) and Karen Gellinger (Chris); and his siblings-in-law, Scott Pitcher, John Beckham and Michelle Beckham. He is also survived by numerous nieces and nephews.
