It is with deep sorrow that we announce the death of Shirley Nadine Powell of Centerville, Indiana, born in Ranlo, North Carolina, who passed away on December 15, 2021, at the age of 94, leaving to mourn family and friends. She was predeceased by: her parents, Leon Lucas and Effie Leona Rish Lucas; her husband Charles W. "Bill" Powell; and her son-in-law Raymond W. Talbot. She is survived by: her daughters, Shirley P. Chaisson (Jimmy) of Richmond, Barbara L. Talbot of Richmond and Deborah A. Long (Timm) of Mooresville, Indiana. She is also survived by eight grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; five great-great-grandchildren; nieces; nephews; cousins; and many friends.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to: Centerville Christian Church for the Funeral Dinner Fund, 111 North Morton Avenue, Centerville, IN 47330.

“I loved my Aunt Nadine. One of my favorite pictures (taken in 1990) is of six of the Lucas sisters with Aunt Nadine‘s arm around my Mama. Her visits to SC where we “toured” the city will always be special to me. To my cousins (and their families) I send my heartfelt sympathy and sincere condolences. I believe she and my Mama are swinging on a cloud — smiling — laughing — singing. Though they are no longer in this world, their spirits live on in us. Lucas’s forever.”
