He is survived by: his father Grover Watson Hanes Jr.; his wife Reeceanna Bowers Hanes; his son John Barret Hanes; his daughter-in-law Katie of Winston-Salem; his granddaughter Caroline Ruth Hanes of Winston-Salem; his sister Janie Johnston; his siblings-in-law, Jimmy of State Road, Randy Bowers and Susan of McLeansville; and his nephew Alan Bowers (Olivia).
